Critique

My Over-all observations.  As a breeder and a judge I know that no dog is perfect, and we all make continued strategic efforts to improve our breed and our line when we breed and plan a litter.

I enjoy seeing a sound dog in the ring and I admire their great qualities and the lovely features.  My philosophy has always been … the cream rises to the top so when you have the soundness of body combined with a showy, alert attitude that dog will stand out amongst the competition.

The key part of a “show dog” is an expressive beautiful, head with sparkling dark eyes framed by alert ears and a balanced body.   I enjoy watching a dog in the ring that is confident, likes being a show off and is having fun.   Baiting the dog in the ring usually helps get the pleasing expression of the head, ears and eyes that I enjoy seeing.  When it came down to my final pick his upbeat, alert expression finally pushed him over the edge and made him my choice.

That being said there were quite a few other males who were sound and I enjoyed judging in my ring also.  To mention a few… the Australian bred by class winner is a stunning dog, sound and easy on the eyes especially on the go around with a beautiful head and balanced body.  The whole AB class had a real depth of quality.

Another dog I enjoyed putting my hands on and immediately caught my eye in the Open Dog class was the dog that I placed second.  I enjoyed all of these dogs for different reasons.  They all were right on the mark in soundness and quality in my book.    I also think over all there was more depth of quality in the males on this particular day.

In the bitches my CC winner has a body and markings to die for…breed type and balance.  I loved her shoulders, and upper arm angles and how she used them on the go around.  She also had a great solid rear, nice sized spotting and pigment, with a great topline.  She is put together very nicely!   My only wish for her was that she would have had a showier attitude in the ring.

My Reserve Open Bitch had a balanced reach and drive on the side gait, and solid boning. This girl was a bit higher in station and in body style… a lovely bitch.  As this class went on this bitch continued to get better and better and eventually outshone the others.

On a congratulatory note for the Australian breeders most of the Dallies presented to me on that day were very pretty and easy movers on the side gait.   Most of them could have coached for miles and all day with a horse and carriage.  Another thing I was pleased with was the temperaments of the dogs in the ring that day.  It was a very windy and sometimes whatever is blowing in the wind can affect a dog’s sense of smell and put them off a bit but this did not happen with any dog in the ring.  Kudos goes out to all these dogs and breeders.

One additional note would be my perception and written comments regarding the loin/croup area.  My comments are based on what I believe to be acceptable, based on interpreting your Dalmatian standard and the definition of that area.  Your standard reads the Dalmatian should have a “powerful level back, loin strong, clean muscular and “slightly arched”.  “Also, arching loins should not be exaggerated”.   Per the Dalmatian Club of Victoria.

 Special Veteran Sweeps
1. Ch Gemcourt Anadot Regal ET (Woiwade)
This girl owned the ring on the go around and moved out so pretty.  She had nice boning.   She did have a slight drop off in the croup.

2. Gr Ch Starswept Balenciaga (Davies/Wright)
This lovely girl had beautiful markings, a pretty spotting pattern and I loved her energy.  Her bite was a bit off and that is why she got this placement.

Veteran Sweeps Dog
1. Gr Ch Starswept Just A Gigolo (Davies/Wright)
A nice dog with pretty markings and pretty spotting pattern, and he was lovely on the go around.

2. Ch Dumbledeer U Dare Me CCD (Young)
Lovely conformation on this dogs just a slight drop off in the croup.

3. Ch Dallydom Cruxx (Dunscombe)
This dog was a lovely dog also; however he was a bit weaker in his rear than the other dogs that had higher placements.

Class 1 Baby Puppy
1. Starswept Painted from Memory (Davies/Wright)
6 Months- A very promising puppy with pretty markings, nicely sized spots with great pigmentation.  He had a lovely and level topline on the stack, and a great length of back. This pup also had a very nice front.   He had a pleasing expression and a beautiful length of neck.    When he moved it was with confidence and ease of motion, and very sound for such a youngster.  I look forward to hearing about this puppy’s future successes.

2. Starswept Siriusly on Fire (Bower)
6 Months-This puppy has nice confirmation but lacks maturity compared to my 1st place selection. He also had nice sized spots with great pigmentation.  He had a slight drop in the croup compared to the first placement. Nice movement on this youngster also just not as smooth as the first placement.

3. Valleyspot Dangerous Detective (Landon) I enjoyed watching this 3 month (3 day) youngster.  He was confident and seemed to enjoy his time in the ring.   He had nice expression, and a confident demeanor, nice boning and nice angles fore and aft.   I’m sure his winning days are right around the corner.

Class 3 Puppy Dog
1. CCDals Astro Wonder Boy (Langton-Bunker)
8 Month-This black puppy had nice boning and his size was proportionate to his bone.  He had nice side gait and uses his angle fore and aft in an efficient manner.  I would have liked to see darker pigmentation and more balance in his markings.   Heads being one of the latter things to mature…I would preferred a prettier head but this dog is young and his head will mature with time.

Class 4 Junior Dog
1. Visualimpact Charlie Brown (McConachy)
This boy had pretty markings, nice boning, and a lovely head piece.  He was very efficient in his movement.  Nice tail set and tail carriage.

2. Texico Havn That Vintage STyle (Godyn)
This boy had a solid top line, was well balanced and structurally very sound.

3. Thunderspot Right Kind of Wrong (O'Brien)
A very pretty boy but not quite as mature in his movement as the previous winners.   Probably just needs some more time to grow up.

Class 5 Intermediate Dog
1. Telde Naughty Choc Obession (Lawson)
Lovely liver boy with beautiful markings and pigmentation.  A very nice topline into tail set and lovely tail carriage.  Strong rear.  Strong, confident and powerful movement on the side and a nice push off his rear.  Lovely boning.

2. Starswept Galileo (AI) (Sullivan)
Lovely boy, again very efficient mover on the side.  Nice boning and a sound dog.   I prefer the markings on the first place dog.

3. Sprintaway In Style by Design (Donald)
The profile standing on this dog was very nice.  On the up and back he moved a little loose in shoulder.  He may just need some maturity or training to be more efficient in his movement.

4. Dimadal Journey To The Stars (Langton-Bunker)
A nice dog and pretty markings, solid movement, he just drops off a little in the croup.

Class 10 Australian Bred
1. Ch Whytewood Jacks Journey to Oz (AI) (Dimadal Knls)A beautiful, sound dog.  Solid top line, a balanced dog fore and aft.  Smooth, effortless and easy going on his side gait.  Strong rear.  Pretty head and ear set.  Evenly marked, and his black and white pigment almost gleamed in the sunlight.  It was a delight to watch this elegant dog in the ring.

2. Ch Gentry Just a Rockstar (Godyn)
Another pretty boy nicely put together, nice solid top line, pretty on the go around just not as elegant as the first place dog.

3. Ch Starswept Iced Mocha (AI) (Davies/Wright)
A pretty liver boy… again nice angles and sound front.  Did not have as much reach as much drive as the first place dog.

4. Ch Telde Guns and Roses (Dunscombe)
A pretty marked black boy nicely put together, lovely length of neck.

CH. STARSWEPT SCOTTISH SOVEREIGN(AI)
A nice boy.  Nicely put together and pretty markings.  A slight drop off in the croup.

Class 11 Open Dog – a very nice class
1. Sup Ch Paceaway Atrosemount (Darling, Vernon & Besoff)
A balanced, nicely marked black boy.  Nice black pigmentation and pleasing to the eye spotting pattern, with a nice solid top line.  Nice moving boy on the go around.  He has a very pleasing head, expression and ear set and a showy attitude.

2. Sup Ch Sprintaway Chief Cheroke (Donald)
Another very nice boy.  Pretty moving dog with pretty markings, nice boning, a solid level top line.  I really enjoyed watching this dog in my ring also.   On a different day this dog could have received first place. First place just out showed this dog today.

3. Ch Liteflite Buckshot Blue (Blumel & Staines)
A Lovely liver dog.  Nice color and pigment pretty round markings and nice sized spots.   Nice neck into shoulders and a lovely top line.  A very pretty mover.  I enjoyed this dog in my ring also.  As the class went on this boy brought his tail a little high.  Still a very pretty boy and on a different day could have been placed higher.

Challenge Dog:- Sup Ch Paceaway Atrosemount
Res Chall:- Ch Whytewood Jacks Journey to Oz (AI)

Class 18 Neuter Dog
1. Ch Whytewood Dangerous Dan CDX ET (Landon)
A nicely marked, balanced black boy, with a lovely long neck, and pretty boning that matched his body and size.  Nicely extended reach and drive on the go around.

2. Ch Dumbledeer Sun Spark CD (Young)
A Black boy nicely marked but falls off a little in the croup area.  Not as extended on the side gait as the first place dog.

3. Starswept Black Label (Embury)
Beautiful pigmentation… The best markings of the group on this boy.  This boy also falls off a bit at the croup.

Class 1A Baby Puppy Bitch
1. Starswept Sky At Night (Sullivan)
Another very promising puppy with pretty markings, nicely sized spots with great pigmentation.  She had a long lovely neck and a lovely outline on the stack.  Very well put together for a puppy.  She had a cute expressive face and enjoyed her time in the ring.  I am sure I will hear of many nice wins for this up n comer in the future.

2. Starswept Sapphires N Diamonds (Davies/Wright)
This puppy girl is very cute also.  Lots of promise.  Her top line at this age not as together as # 39.   She is full of promise and I know will be a strong contender as she matures.

3. Krystaway Weekend Hartbreaker (Harbin)
A liver spotted girl nicely put together in body and length of body with a lot of potential just lacked the maturity compared to the other two girls.

Class 2 Minor Puppy
1. CCDals ABBA Winner Take All (Langton-Bunker)
No recording on this exhibit.   I apologize.

Class 4 Junior Bitch – Really liked this class of bitches.
1. . Ch Paceaway Expensive Liason (Darling, Vernon & Besoff)
A lovely liver bitch, lovely long neck, lovely angles for and aft, very balanced, beautiful solid top line.  Moved pretty on the side gait.  Well handled.  I would have liked to see a cleaner down and back.

2. Visualimpact Rubies N Diamonds (Lawson & McConachy) Another really, lovely liver bitch loved her body and substance.   Nice neck. A solid body and nice, smooth shoulders.   Lovely liver round markings and a lovely spotting pattern.   If this bitch had been handled better she probably would have won this class. Unfortunately, this pretty girl was not presented so that I could see all her potential.

3. Coastdal Take A chance On Me (Young)  Another very nice bitch I felt if she had been a little (a few pounds) thinner she could have been more competitive.   Nice neck and pretty type.  Very pretty girl and really liked her style and presence in the ring.

Class 5 Intermediate Bitch
1. Ch Paceaway Sabari (Donald)
A lovely liver bitch, lovely type very sound and so much breed type.    Beautiful, shoulder angles, lovely solid top line and solid rear.  So pretty on the go around.  Pretty Liver markings and nicely sized spotting pattern.  I would have liked to see a little more expression and attitude but a top notch bitch in my book.  If I could bring this girl home with me I would have.  Loved her!

2. Telde Naughty But Delightful (Lawson)
A very pretty bitch a little longer backed, not as good on the up and back as the 1st place winner.  .

3. Dimdal Jessie James (Daltreen Knls)
A pretty black bitch, pretty markings and dark pigmentation not as much front and more rear angulations so not as balanced as the previous girls.  Did not move as well on the go around as the previous girls.

4. Ch. Dimadal Jester Girl (Allen)
A lovely black and white bitch with nice pigment she just drops off a little more in the croup than the previous girls.

Class 10 Australian Bred Bitch
1. Ch Krystaway Show Bling (Harbin)
A pretty marked liver girl very balanced with lovely side gait.  She had a slight rise in her loin but beautiful pigment in coloring, she had nice round spotting pattern and enjoyed herself in the ring, and I enjoyed watching her show.

2. Gr Ch Lukius Solar Flare RN ET (Woiwade)
A liver girl, she was pretty on the go around, I would like to see a little prettier markings but a very sound girl.   Pretty neck into shoulders but I prefer the markings on the 1st place dog.

3. Visualimpact Divine Chocolat  (McConachy)
A pretty girl.  More body and substance on this girl I just preferred the type on the other two for confirmation.

Class 11 Open Bitch
1. Ch Krystaway Wicked In Silk (Langton-Bunker)
A Black and white bitch strikingly typie.  She had lovely angles front and aft and holds her top line on the go around.  She had a beautiful top line, and tail set and tail carriage on the exam.   I enjoyed watching this bitch in my ring.  The more this bitch showed the better she got.  I enjoyed her show style and show presence in my ring.

2. Sup Ch Hillofsilver Paparazzi (Harbin)
This bitch had lovely side gait.  She was just a bit out of condition but enjoyed this bitch in my ring also.  Pretty marked and nice type.  Drops ever so slight in the croup.

3. Ch Gentry Swept By Stars (Davies/Wright)
A pretty bitch with a little ticking in her marking but together in every other aspect of confirmationPretty on the go around. Liked her style and presence in the show ring.

4. Ch.Visualimpact Star Attraction (McConachy)
This girl covered a lot of ground on the go around and I really enjoyed watching her move.   She had more body and substance than the previous class winners.  She had lovely angles both fore and aft but she dropped off slightly at the croup.

Challenge Bitch:- Ch Paceaway Sabari
Res Chall:- Ch Krystaway Wicked In Silk

Class 18 Neuter Bitch
1. Starswept Southern Cross (Davies/Wright)
A nice typie bitch, pretty and easy on the go around.  This girl enjoyed being in the ring and it showed.  Confident and elegant in her style.

2. Ch Dimadal Ella Enchanted ET (Schrumpf)
More substance to this girl.  Very pretty.  Drops off slightly at the croup.

3. Ch Gemcourt Anadot Regal ET (Woiwade)
A pretty girl standing with a slight drop off in the croup and would like a prettier spotting pattern.
